On striving

Truth is not a reward for good behaviour, nor a prize for passing some tests. It cannot be brought about. It is the primary, the unborn, the ancient source of all that is. You are eligible because you are. You need not merit truth. It is your own. Just stop running away by running after. Stand still, be quiet. – Nisargadatta Maharaj

One thing I’ve never understood about religions is why so many of them tell you that you have to work so hard to be worthy of the truth. As if truth gives a fuck about worthiness.

Yeah, you can find it in years of obeisance at the feet of a guru.
Or on a high mountaintop after weeks of fasting.
Through complete dedication to doctrine or practice.
Through honing your mind on the whetstone of wisdom.
Through endless rituals before graven images.

But hell, you can find it anywhere.
Because its everywhere.

You can find it by breathing.
You can find it by not breathing.
You can find it in love, or in art, or through work.
You can find it by getting sick or taking drugs or going crazy.
You can even find it through anger.

Can’t see the point in those strenuous paths myself.
I prefer the Way of the Sloth.
